Online Math Tutor

Sara Young

Hi there, I'm Sara. You may have heard of me as Ms.Teachalot, that’s because I teach a lot! I have been helping learners full time since 2008 and couldn't imagine doing anything else. I am always ecstatic when student's express to me how much I have helped improve their math and statistics skills and confidence.

About Me

I am a certified math teacher and have been tutoring since 1997. I have been in business full time with over 40 hours of tutoring per week since 2008.

I have a B.Sc. with an Advanced Major in Statistics from Dalhousie University where I was awarded entrance into the Golden Key International Honour Society.

At MSVU I graduated from the B.Ed. program with a GPA of 4.15. I became a certified teacher and taught math and science for the Halifax Regional School Board in Nova Scotia, Canada.

After teaching for the public school system for 4 years, I began my tutoring business. I’ve been tutoring online since 2010. Helping students overcome their fear of math and excel in their studies is my passion.

I have many interests besides teaching which allows me to relate to most individuals. I am a nature and animal lover. I have two cats, Ash and Charlie, who you will most likely meet online.

I play flute in a community band in Halifax. It is the one extra curricular activity I participate in weekly and it makes me so happy. I will try my best to recruit you!

In the summer months you will most likely find me outside on random adventures such as hiking, swimming, and kayaking. I also enjoy playing pickleball with my husband.

During the cooler months I enjoy snowshoeing and crafting, including sewing and paper quilling. Math isn't the only thing I teach. I also teach paper quilling at workshops throughout the year.

My Teaching Method

My method of teaching depends on your wants and needs. I am flexible since every student has different learning styles, needs, and goals.

My goal is to teach students how to learn efficiently so they can be self-sufficient in the future. This can include support to help students develop organization and time management skills, note-taking skills, and test preparation skills, which will all help to cope with test anxieties.

Often there is a focus on problem solving, since most students find higher level problems and word problems more challenging. I want my students to feel confident so that they can reach their full potential.

“Over the summer I was dreading the statistics course I had to take in order to fulfill my degree requirement.  With the absence of math from my life for three years I knew that this course would be an obstacle for me.  With Sara’s patience and effective teaching skills I achieved great understanding and confidence with the course material, and even ended up enjoying the course as well.  Sara is not only an effective teacher, but a kind and gracious person who has helped me see my potential in the academic world.”
